Falling for Fall: Easy Ways to Add Autumn Touches to Your Decor

With the unofficial end of summer fast approaching, it’s time to look forward to one of my favorite seasons – fall. I’ve always loved fall for its rich and earthy color palette and cozy feeling. I’m a huge believer of decorating for you, based on your likes and needs, and not based on the latest trends. However, injecting fall décor into your everyday style and design is super simple to pull off with some of these suggestions.
Change your throw cushions.
This is a simple way to make a big impact. Adding warm oranges, golds and reds can instantly get you into the comfy feeling of fall. For those with color pallets that don’t lend themselves to these warms, muted colors, try incorporating that fall feeling with textured neutrals like burlap and canvas. Whether you decide to buy new throw pillows, buy covers for existing pillows or make your own, here are a few of my favorite looks:

Smells.
While colors may be the first thing people see when invited into your home, the first impression will be how your home smells. Change the candles being used around the house with classic fall scents such as pumpkin, cinnamon, apples and cranberries. For centerpieces on the coffee and dining tables, add cinnamon sticks and whole nutmeg along with fall floral staples. Which is your favorite scent?

Bring life to old decorations.
If adding traditional touches of fall to your home décor is not your taste, or in your budget, don’t fret. Old Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations can easily be updated to your year-round style. Those pumpkins you decorate with on Halloween? Show them some love with a coat of metallic spray. Or, pick up some pine cones during an afternoon walk and shower them with a heavy dose of glitter. These make great vase fillers and can be added throughout your home.
